Nippon Kobo Vol. 1 - Seasons
Nippon Kobo is "A collaborative showcase by leading artists, creators and entrepreneurs of Japan, for an immersive experience in contemporary Japanese music and culture." Nippon Kobo’s inaugural event will be on September 15! My piece “Turning Leaves, Falling Ash” (for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and marimba) will have it’s premiere performance at this event.

Ghosts on the Water Album Release this week!
I’m excited to release my new album “Ghosts on the Water,” featuring the Erika Oba Trio with special guest Roopa Mahadevan. The album is officially available this Friday, June 21 and pre-orders are available on Bandcamp now. We will be doing our album release shows at The Clarion Performing Arts Center on Friday, June 21 (8pm) and Oaktown Jazz Workshops on Sunday, June 23 (3pm). This album is a culmination of many years of work, and includes original works by myself and Jeremy Steinkoler, as well as Japanese and Okinawan folk songs and explores themes of ecology, spirituality, ritual and heritage.
Sleight Ensemble presents “TRANSIT FUTURES”
Sleight Ensemble is excited to present TRANSIT FUTURES, a multimedia exploration of transit in the Bay Area! The concert will feature new works by composer/performers Stephanie Neumann, Jacob Lane, Erika Oba, video artist Alan Zignoto, and a special guest performance by Jamael Smith on bassoon.
Midsummer Night’s Dream at Shotgun Players
Midsummer Night’s Dream Previews start this weekend! I composed the music for this show and got to collaborate with an amazing group of artists. If you are local I hope you are able to see it. The show will run from March 16 to April 21 at the Ashby Stage in Berkeley.

Announcing Fresno Philharmonic’s Cultural Crossroads: Kisetsu
I am thrilled to be collaborating with the Fresno Philharmonic, conductor Rei Hotoda, and my sister, Hitomi Oba! We will be writing a new work inspired the writings of Fresno farmer, David “Mas” Masumoto. This project is a co-commission between the Fresno Philharmonic and the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy of Music. The full press release is available here.

After four years, I’m excited to finally release Strange Moon! We recorded back in August 2019 with every intention of releasing in 2020, and then the world had other plans for us. At long last I’m happy to finally be able to share this music.

San Francisco Music Day!
This Sunday is the annual SF Music Day! There will be free concerts all day at the War Memorial Theater in San Francisco, and I am honored to be playing in three bands throughout the afternoon.
